Things to Do in Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay is a popular eastern Sri Lankan coastal destination, especially among visitors interested in surfing and beach life. Explore the area and check seasonal surf and weather conditions when planning your stay.
Arugam Bay is on the surf world's map for Main Point, a long right-hander that peels across the bay in the east-coast season, with gentler breaks at Whiskey Point and Peanut Farm for learners. Off the board there are lagoon boat trips at dawn, sunset climbs of Elephant Rock and the wild Kumana National Park to the south.
It is remote – around seven hours from Colombo – which is exactly why it stays relaxed. Arugam Bay is best visited between May and September when the east-coast swells are at their best.
