Things to Do in Galle
Galle is a southern Sri Lankan city celebrated for its historic fort and distinctive coastal streets. Explore the area's heritage and other visitor highlights, and consider a nearby beach stop as part of your travel plans.
Galle Fort was begun by the Portuguese and completed by the Dutch in the 17th century, and it remains a living town within the walls: Dutch churches and merchant houses, a white lighthouse on the ramparts, and a lane-by-lane scene of cafés, jewellers and galleries.
Walk the ramparts at sunset, watch cricket on the green below the walls and use the fort as a base for the beaches on either side.
