Things to Do in Sigiriya
Sigiriya is best known for its dramatic rock fortress and its place in Sri Lanka's cultural heritage. Explore the area's attractions and travel-planning considerations before looking at tours that include Sigiriya and nearby destinations.
Sigiriya is Sri Lanka's most extraordinary monument: King Kashyapa's 5th-century sky palace, built on top of a granite rock that towers 200 metres above the jungle. The climb passes the famous frescoes and the Lion's Paw terrace before reaching the summit ruins and their 360-degree views.
At the base are the water gardens – among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world – and across the way is Pidurangala, the neighbouring rock whose summit gives the best view of Sigiriya itself.
