Sinharaja Forest Reserve
Sinharaja is an important rainforest destination in Sri Lanka, known for its biodiversity and dense tropical forest environment. Explore what makes the reserve distinctive and review access and visitor guidance when planning a nature-focused trip.
Sinharaja Forest Reserve protects the island's largest surviving tract of primary rainforest. More than half of its trees are found nowhere else, and it is the best place in the country to see Sri Lanka's endemic birds – often in the mixed feeding flocks that move through the canopy.
Guided walks range from gentle waterfall trails to full-day treks, with leeches, mist and a soundtrack of cicadas as part of the experience.
